Pontefract Academies Trust Raise almost £20,000 In Their Phenomenal Fundraising Efforts

All eight schools who are part of Pontefract Academies Trust have received the totals that they have collectively raised for The Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract and Motor Neurone Disease Association during the 2020-2021 academic year. £10,252.10 had been raised for The Prince of Wales Hospice and £9,160.65 for Motor Neurone Disease. Both are incredible amounts that will make a positive difference to both charities. Staff including teachers, lunchtime supervisors and housekeepers across the eight schools in Pontefract Academies Trust have each endured at least 92 seconds of ice cold water on their feet to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease (MNDA) by taking part in the Ice Foot 92 challenge. The King’s School and Carleton High School, both members of Pontefract Academies Trust, are celebrating GCSE success today. Two students from The King’s School achieved an incredible set of results comprising off all 9s. 9% of students across both schools achieved all 7-9 grades in all subjects (A-A*). 52% of students at Carleton High School and 59% of students at The King’s School achieved a grade 7-9 (A-A*) in at least one subject. Deaf Awareness Week is Celebrated in Pontefract Primary School

Children at The Rookeries Carleton, Junior, Infant & Nursery School, part of Pontefract Academies Trust, celebrated Deaf Awareness Week last week. They focused on what It means to be deaf and explored the differences encountered by deaf people. The Rookeries are proud that their school is home to the Deaf and Hearing Impaired Resource, which is a Wakefield Local Authority provision that provides access to the curriculum for deaf pupils. Pontefract Academies Trust has enlisted the support of Yorkshire born author and poet Conrad Burdekin to be their Patron of Reading. More than 3900 children in Pontefract will benefit from this appointment and are all very excited about his upcoming interactive workshops that will be taking place in all Pontefract Academies Trust primary schools over the coming year to inspire and encourage their love of reading. Wearing red, telling funny jokes and dressing up as their favourite superheroes are just some of the ways that the children at Pontefract Academies Trust schools plan to celebrate Red Nose Day this Friday 19th March. Masked Readers celebrate World Book Day at Pontefract Academies Trust

Teachers, pupils and parents didn’t let lockdown stop them from celebrating this year’s World Book Day as they enjoyed an action packed agenda to enjoy their love of storytelling and reading. Creative Pontefract Children produce 200 Poppies for Remembrance Day

Primary school children from Pontefract Academies Trust have made around 200 poppies to be displayed opposite Valley Gardens in Pontefract Town Centre for all to come and see and mark Remembrance Day on the 11th November. The idea behind this was to help all the children to learn the meaning behind Remembrance Sunday, Armistice Day, and the significance of the ceremonies and the poppy symbol in a creative and thought provoking way. Thousands of Pontefract Kids Took Part in the Cross Country Challenge

Around 3500 children in Pontefract put their best feet forward to take part in the Trust’s first Cross Country Challenge competition. Each child raced against their individual class mates along a designated track to adhere to social distancing rules. Key Stage 1 children ran 800 metres and Key Stage 2 children ran 1200 metres. At the end of the race the children were given an individual time to share with their parents.
